Best place to stay without a hire car

In Anchorage for 3 nights, 5-8 August. We will probably take the train from Seward and have booked a Prince William Sound flightseeing tour from Anchorage and a Katmai National Park bear viewing tour from Anchorage. Where would be the best place to stay for these tours if we do not have a hire car? At the moment we are considering the Lake Hood Inn, Jewel Lake B %26amp; B or the Alaskan Leopard. Which is in the most favourable location for our trips by seaplane?

How will we get about and get to the airport at the end of our stay? What is public transport like in Anchorage?

Hi, are you sure both trips leave from Lake Hood? If so, you are quite close to the airport if you stay somewhere near Lake Hood as they are within a mile of each other. A hotel on Lake Hood is the Millenium - I haven%26#39;t been there for awhile but it used to be really nice. The Coastal International is also well located but I don%26#39;t know anything about it. Both are listed on the TA list of hotels. What are the addresses of the places you are considering? Public transport here is not very good particularly when compared to that in the UK - you can rely on it but the routes are very limited and the buses are not very frequent.

Reply with addresses and we%26#39;ll try to advise you further.

If you like the B%26amp;B experience, you will LOVE the Lake Hood Inn - http://www.lakehoodinn.com/ if you haven%26#39;t seen it yet. Your floatplane (in theory aty least) can pick you up almost at the door of this place!

Hi, I just looked at the website and address for the Lake Hood Inn and it is very well located for your purposes assuming you do your flightseeing trips from Lake Hood. Additionally, you would be maybe 7 minutes by taxi to the airport. I%26#39;m guessing but I imagine the management can advise you about catching public transport to the downtown area where you can take a shuttle bus to the Native Heritage Center - it%26#39;s the one thing that isn%26#39;t downtown that I think is a must for all. You could consider renting a car for a day - driving here is not on crowded roads if you avoid the rush hour. If you do want a car for a day, there are several discount places and the B%26amp;B should be able to refer you. If you are gardeners, the Botanical Garden is nice but you%26#39;ll need to take a taxi or have a car as it is not downtown and they don%26#39;t have a shuttle.

The only problem with the B%26amp;B and no car is dinner - there are a couple of places you could walk to but that area of town has some dodgy parts so get advice before you head off. Taxis really aren%26#39;t too expensive if the public transport won%26#39;t work for getting to a restaurant.

Hope this helps.
