Cruise with children

We would love to see and explore Alaska in 2007 with a 9 and 12 year old. We are very active and not really a cruise - get herded with other people- type of family. Is there anything available where we can combine a cruise and land trip without being with thousands of others?

Cruise with children

So many options.....let%26#39;s start with specific activities that you enjoy and how much time will you have......your children are old enough to really enjoy and have lifelong memories of a trip like this......

The Alaska Marine Highway (state ferry system) has several different routes that you could use to different ports without having to spend all your time on board a ship.....

Other options are day long sightseeing cruises to view glaciers and or whales....those are privately operated and leave from several different ports as well.....

Maybe a combination of RV camping combined with small day cruises........Time for all 4 of you to get together and makes lists of your priorities....get out a good map.....and ask a million questions on this forum.....plenty of help here with ideas and suggestions......

travelgirl, for many years I bought into the cruise stereotype of being herded. In May 2005 I got an offer couldn%26#39;t refuse, and took the Radiance of the Seas on a 7-day Vancouver-Alaska return. Well, my wife and I are both hooked, and went on 3 more this year (2 Alaskas and a Caribbean). In your case, taking a one-way cruise (Vancouver-Seward) and then renting an RV for a week would give you the best of both worlds. On the ships it%26#39;s easy to avoid crowds almost all the time, and in the ports, take small independent excursions rather than the mass-market ones offered by the cruise lines. I think you%26#39;ll be very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the experience.

I would recommend a crusie form Vancouver to Whittier, I have spent lots of time on their boats and they have plenty of small excursions at ports and an excellent childrens program on board the ship. With great restraunts and entertainment, your kids can go to the childrens center(divided by age groups) where they have good activities for kids and you can enjoy a nice dinner with your husband or have a nightcap at the bar.

SoCalFamily500, why are you bumping a thread that is TWO AND A HALF YEARS OLD?

Your 3rd post this morning promoting this outfitter. Are you getting a kickback or credit?
