car rental in Seward

Are there any rental car agencies in Seward? We weren%26#39;t able to find one using Orbitz.

Hertz is the only car rental in Seward. If you%26#39;re planning on renting in one city and dropping off in another, be aware that there is a large drop-off fee (though that would be offset by not having to buy train/bus tickets, and of course convenience).

Thanks. I just checked online and it would appear that car rental fees are daily. There are no weekly rates. Does that sound right?

Since Hertz is the only company, they set the policies. If they only have daily rates it doesn%26#39;t surprise me but I am sure whatever they say goes - no other game in town. You might check the internet, call the toll-free Hertz number and call the local office just to compare prices and information. It would not surprise me if it is like hotels, where you get different information/prices from each source.

We rented a car for our day in Seward and then took the train to Anchorage. What a beautiful train ride it is. We had read a lot about it, and it exceeded our expectations!!!

We are probably taking the train down from Anchorage and staying in Seward at a B%26amp;B for 2-3 nights, which is why we need the car. We will be taking in some of the local sites and ';must-do%26#39;s';. Then we will take the train back to Anchorge. I wonder if we kept the car and dropped off the car in Anchorage, if the one way drop off fees would cost more than 2 adult train fares back to Anchorage??? Anyone ever done this?

You will need to go to the Hertz website and put in both options.

I did some random dates in July, 2009. It came up as $80 a day (not including taxes)for an Impala if you rented and returned in Seward. The cost for returning to a location in Anchorage was $137 a day (not including taxes). I priced it out for both airport return and downtown return and the price was the same. You will need to check with your exact dates.

I will say $80 a day for a full size vehicle is less than we paid last summer. I think we paid around $100 a day and I booked early and it only went up after that.

Unfortunately none of the coupon codes for Hertz worked last year. You can always try for this year, in case things have changed due to the economy. Since Hertz is the only car rental in Seward, they do not have to offer any enticements.

I forgot to mention that most rental places these days don%26#39;t charge a drop off fee. They just increase the daily rate.

We are currently trying to rent a car in California for next summer and the one way fees were exorbitant. The daily rental fee was double.

a drop off fee, it is one price no matter how many days you have the car. Increasing the daily rate basically gives them a drop off fee every day of your rental. I believe it was Thrifty that still had the drop off fee. For picking up in San Francisco and dropping off in San Diego their drop off fee was $500. We rerouted our trip and are going round trip San Diego.

One more thing, although the daily car rate was the same for downtown and airport, you will pay more airport taxes. I did not carry the reservation process all the way through to see what that difference would be.

';We will be taking in some of the local sites and ';must-do%26#39;s';';

You really don%26#39;t need a car in Seward unless you want one. It%26#39;s tiny, population 3000 or so.

You know, I read this so many time before our trip, but we went ahead and rented a car for one of our two days there. We were very happy to have it. It was nice not to have to track down taxis or shuttles. We were free to do what we wanted when we wanted without waiting.

In our case, we came off the cruise ship and headed to the Northwestern Fjords Tour. We didn%26#39;t rent our car until we got back from the boat tour. WE left the following day on the train. This way we only needed a one day rental. The following day we did the Sealife Center, a scenic drive, and Exit Glacier. It was nice having the car. JMHO
