Has anyone been on a Sikumi Cruise ?? It is a small boat cruise, it only takes 8 people for a week . If anyone has done this I would be interested to hear your comments please.

sikumi cruise

rojaan1, I don%26#39;t have any personal experience with this company but we met a couple in Valdez this year who took a wildlife cruise with them. One of them did not like it at all, too small, too cold, not much wildlife, food just OK. The other person liked it much better but they both agree they would not return as it was too expensive for what they got. Please remember this is only what we heard and not what we personally experienced.

Well we have been on our Sikumi cruise.I do go everywhere with Rojaan.

It was fantastic.Sure it was much more expensive than a large boat cruise but then you dont have to spend extra on food ,drinks and excursions so the price differential is a lot less than you would think.

It also would not be for those who must';do';everything. However the experiences you have are magic.

The best day was in Frederick sound. We started the day just south of the sound and 5 of us began at 6.45 to fist for halibut. In 45 minutes we had 9 halibut on board. The halibut taco salad for lunch was absolutely fantastic. The only down side of the food was that i gained 14 pounds in 7 days!

After breakfast where again the pastries and bread had been baked fresh that morning we motored a few hundred metres and picked up

the crab pots.25 fresh dungeness crabs.Did I tell you how good the food was?

Enjoyed the sigt of 2 bald eagles flying over the ship with salmon in their talons.Next into the sound accompanied by several dall porpoises. Then came the whales. We watched bubble feeding up close-the whales came to us.We saw lunge feeding, breaching and tail slapping.

After our lunch we got into the kayaks-even rojaan who had never done this before. There were at least 200 whales in the sound and you could hear them all even though some were several miles away.at least 30 of them at various times came within metres of the kayaks.Whilst this was going on we watched a Celebrity cruise ship steam up the far side of the sound. It was gone within 30 minutes.Whatever people on that cruise saw of the whales it wasnt much.

The rest of the day was pretty boring-just more eagles, otters and sealions. Then a walk along a beach where I managed to catch a halibut with my wellington boot!Turned out it had been attacked by a sealion and wasnt going to survive so we let the sealion win.

On the last day we went to Leconte glacier near Petersburg.$ miles up a river through large chunks of ice many with harbour seals resting on them. Finally to the glacier which was calving frequently-the noises then feeling the wave rock the boat was an experince.Even better no one else was there.Later went on a glacier cruise out of Seward and even though this was a small boat the experience paled in comparison with our time on the Sikumi.

So if you dont have to be surrounded by thousands of people, enjoy nature and good fresh food as well as not being worried by paying a little more for a more personal experience then i can highly reccomend the Sikumi.I have no doubt that for me a small boat cruise is the way to go.
