Alaska Cruise Line - With Adventure Options

We are looking for recommendations on Alaska Cruise lines. Our extended family seeks to combine first class amenities with maximum adventure options, i.e., kayaking, hikes, etc. We%26#39;d be grateful for any insights you may be willing to share.

Until another reponds, I thought I would suggest that you do a search thru the forum. JQ-another Californian has done several cruises and posts very helpful information, and that might help you until someone responds directly. Good luck! :)

Does anyone have a cruise line that is better than others or ones that should be avoided?

To choose a cruise, you need to know what you are looking for--upscale? up close? casual? long ? short? cheap? good value? So, it is not as easy as just saying that one line is better than the others.

Hello,

I am leaning towards Celebrity Cruises Infinity Ship. Any thoughts on this one? Does anyone have recommended trip excursions? Should I book separate from the ship - I would assume this is lower cost? What do you think about the dog mushing / glacier flights? I hear it is like $450....

Thanks everyone!

Celebrity is more adult oriented than some lines. Excursions from other companies are usually less. Port Promotions is excellent for that.

Dog adventure is truly fantastic, but can be done for less money when not on snow.

Mercer - was that a joke about dog mushing on something other than snow? I didn%26#39;t think there was another way. Also - is this feasible in June? We are thinking early to mid June.

Hi there! Not sure exactly what adventure thmercer is referring to, but yes, committed dog mushers work their dogs year round. They are usually hitched to a 4 wheeler frame and off they go. Sled dogs really love to run, so that is why they train year round. Many mushers are starting to see the potential w/tourists, so offer sled dog experiences even during the summer. I have heard of some adventures that take people up to either glaciers/snow fields at high elevations, but that is usually one of those very expensive adventures. Hope that answers your question. :)
