Best spot for aurora view in Cleary Summit area??

We plan to go to Cleary Summit north of Fairbanks to do the aurora viewing in the middle of Sept.

We heard Poker Flat Research Range is good spot. But is it open to public?

Does anyone can recommend some exact spot that has good view, like some parking lot or turnout?

Thanks in advance!!

To observe the Northern Lights you don’t really have to travel out to Ski Land to do it, but there is parking at Ski Land and some pull offs on the road. The lights pretty much dominate the sky where ever you are when they are out.

Cleary Summit has a lodge that you can stay at and has a great room full of windows for viewing. I believe they even give you a wake up call when they are out. But if you are not up to the rustic stay, you can simply go a couple of miles north of town to the pull out off of Steese hiway and Haggelberger. The problem is, the later you go the better chance you have of seeing them. So you might end up staying in your car for several hours.

Thank you so much for the information!

Hope I can have some very good luck there.

Well, did you see any? Are you back yet? They are out tonight.
