Land Tour Meal Plans Worth it?

We are booking a Cruise land tour with HAL for July/August of 2007. The land portion is for 9 Days the meal plan would cost $260 for 10 meals (6 breakfasts, 1 lunch, %26amp; 3 dinners). Is this worth it?

Meal plans are always a bad deal financially - this one is particularly bad. An average eater can save $100 on that price.

I have to agree with the previous poster. Those tours normally go to ';touristy'; places. There is opportunity for you to purchase meals on your own (they may not be the best of eateries, however).

I fee the same as both posters. Are you going to drive a car or are you going to be in a bus with a large group of people? If you are part of a group then it may not be practical to look for places to have your meals without your own transportation and with time restrictions. $260 may or may not be lost of money. Can you find out what places breakfast, lunches and dinners are going to be served? If, for instance, one dinner is in Simon %26amp; Seafort%26#39;s in Anchorage (or any more upscale restaurants) then this dinner alone will costs you well over $100.00 for two.

Personally, I would look at this price as $520.00 for two people. Is wine included with your dinners? What about tips and tax? $520 is lots of money for not that many meals.

Meal plans in Alaska never include liquor or wine, but usually include tips..
