Toursaver in December and New Year's Eve hotel

I was exploring the toursaver discounts and a lot end in mid September. My wife and I are coming up From Dec 28 - Jan 3rd and I was wondering if people found the discounts that were still valid worth it for that time year.

Also, seeing we%26#39;re going to be in Anchorage for New Year%26#39;s Eve, any recommendations on hotels to stay at (or any fun places to go) for that night (not big partiers but like to go out and meet people) And it looks like Mt. Alyeska is booked for that night so we%26#39;re going to finish up our trip for two nights there.

Thanks for any advice. This forum is fantastic!

Toursaver in December and New Year's Eve hotel

Well, at least you won%26#39;t have to worry about cold. It is going to warmer in Anchorage than Rochester, NY. I wouldn%26#39;t even think about Toursaver for such short visit and this time of the year. They never work for us and we traveled in the summers. What activities would you use them for?

I%26#39;m sorry I%26#39;m not able to give you suggestions on places to stay or any fun places to go on New Year%26#39;s Eve. I think any hotel in the center of Anchorage would be good place to stay. Have a great time and a happy new year once you are there.

I don%26#39;t think you would need a toursaver book - most activities aren%26#39;t running then, and all the hotels are 1/2 price compared to summer rates. I would look at a hotel in the downtown area . . . .lots to choose from - everything from the Comfort Inn, Hilton, and the lovely Captain Cook. Have fun! :)

Hi, I am wondering if you are coming for a vacation or on business with a vacation thrown in. What sorts of things do you want to do? Your interests will give us some guidance for recommendations as to which part of town might be the best. You will definitely need a car so plan on renting one. The larger hotels usually have New Year%26#39;s Eve parties but that may not be what you want if it is just the two of you and not a group of friends - it might be worth e-mailing/calling the Millenium, Captain Cook, Hilton, Marriott, etc. as these are all standard hotels with bars that might be fun and not ';organized'; as well as dinner/dance parties - we have quite a selection of places around town that might be fun but it will be primarily a young crowd of fairly party-hearty types - don%26#39;t know your age.

Oh you will love it here over new years, obviously you know what you are in for coming in Jan-I would reccomend Cptn%26#39;Cook Hotel dwntwn-most beautiful hotel in Anch-Alyeska is also awesome but 20 min drive from Anch-in fun quirky little ski town of Girdwood-another place to think about in Girdwood is Raven Lodge-B%26amp;B! When you do go to Alyeska Prince while amazingly beautiful the food is wretched!Don;t be fooled by the gorgeous Tram leading up to 7 Glacier restraunt-still take the tram for fun to hike around and sightsee birds eye view of what seems like 4ever, but the beautiful resturant is perfect for drikns at the bar stay away from the food- SOO expensive, and desperately bland and assembly line- not good in any of the hotel places -but do go to the bake shop on the backside of the hotel-privately owned by ski bums!also check out Double Musky and Max%26#39;s Grill - Dont miss Simon and Seaforts in Anch. Be sure to look up as if it is a cold (whichit will be)clear night glorious Northern lights!AHHHHH, I love living here:) another more affordable hotel is residence inn-great pool great gym, right in the middle of anch, and very reasonably priced suites(we go evry jan for b-day and is usually appx 100-!Very clean and free breakfast! The Hilton is good also-Have so much fun and if you are real adventurus-Chilkoot Charlie seem to be a tourist stop-really just a early 20%26#39;s hang out but I keep seeing people say how you shouldn t miss it ! Sorry this was so long Have fun!

Hey, Alaskandyingforsun (did I get that right?) - I really hope you aren%26#39;t driving to Girdwood from Anchorage in 20';!! If so, please post when you are heading out and I%26#39;ll stay home! Oh, wait, you have your own helicopter, right? : } For everyone else, it%26#39;s really a 40-45'; drive at best and you need to allow more for traffic as it is mostly two lane and very curvey road.

Hey Kylies mom! Yeah you are right about the travel time, I grew up in Rabbitt Creek and went to Glacier creek academy at Alyeska, and that drive was about 20mins, but realisticly 40 mins is much more accurate from downtown anchorage! monica

Wow, am I glad you aren%26#39;t on that road driving that fast! I%26#39;d have given up skiing! Well, maybe. Glad to see you on the forum!

Thanks for all the advice. I%26#39;ve been busily planning the trip and have used many of the recommendations and comments from this forum. Being that this is my wife%26#39;s b-day, I splurged for 2 nights and booked the Captain Cook for New Year%26#39;s Eve (upper floors). Hopefully, it will be a New Year%26#39;s / birthday she%26#39;ll remember.

And from all the posts about the Snow City Cafe, we%26#39;ll definately have to stop by for breakfast one morning.

I%26#39;m researching flightseeing tours right now. It looks like they run year round. Any thoughts on flightseeing that time of year (with limited daylight, possibility of snow, cold, etc.)

Thanks.
