Places to stay in Denali

We%26#39;d like some recommendations - we%26#39;re a party of 8 adults in our 50s looking at the 3 day rail package as opposed to doing it on our own.

We%26#39;re thinking late June early July - any info on weather at that time?

Places to stay in Denali

Lillith: That is my favorite time of year up here - warm, very green with lots of flowers blooming and almost 24 hours of sunshine. So while I can%26#39;t guarantee good weather, it usually is.

Well, I am one of those independent traveling folks, so I usually don%26#39;t recommend pkgs . . . but that is just me. I always recommend doing your own thing . . . . taking the shuttle bus into the park, hiking where ever you want to go, etc. I do love the train, but it is a bit limiting. Hopefully, some other that have used rail pkgs will chime in as well. Good luck! :)

Places to stay in Denali

Just got back from a Princess LandCruise which included taking their train from Anchorage to Denali, stayed in Denali 2 nites and then take the train to Fairbanks. The train from Anchorage to Denali took about 7 to 8 hours but it was worth it. The scenery was spectacular. The train itself was very nice, the meals were very good, although a little pricey. We had the treat of being able to see Denali for most of the ride. It was pretty cool just sitting there looking out the window and having a couple of ';refreshments';. You are able to get up and move around and even go outside on the platform at the back of the traincar. The way the car is setup is that on each side is a table and you can sit 4 at each table, 2 facing forward and 2 facing backward. At Denali we stayed at the Princess Denali Lodge, which was fine, rooms are small but fine. The restaurants at Denali were the best in the area. Took the tundra tour as it was included, it was great, saw bears, wolf, sheep, etc. Do not take the natural history tour. The train ride from Denali to Fairbanks was okay, the train ride was fine but the scenery is not anywhere near as nice. If I has my choice I would skip Fairbanks completely.

ps our tour started in Anchorage on 9/5 and ended up in Vancouver on 9/17 and we had maybe 2 to 3 hours of rain the entire time. Walked around Ketchikan with nothing but a long sleeve shirt on..

fsulli01, you were so lucky and had a nice weather on your trip. We too were lucky during our trip in the end of August and were able to see Mount McKinley during four days.

LOL! I hope you had at least shoes on besides a long sleeve shirt as you walked around Ketchikan.
