Going to Alaska in September. Looking for CLEAN motels under $100 in or near Anchorage. HAS ANYONE BEEN TO AL%26#39;S ALASKA INN on Old Seward Hwy. Anc.?? Can%26#39;t find any reviews for the place. Don%26#39;t like B%26amp;B%26#39;s no private bath and not enough privacy.
Would apprecitate any advice.
motels under $100 in September in Alaska
Welcome to TA.
The best way to find hotels/motels under $100 would be through priceline or hotwire. I have used hotwire in the past to obtain hotels like the Extended Stay both downtown and midtown for $45-$65/night plus taxes and fees.
The downside is that you don%26#39;t know the name of the hotel until you pay but with a little effort on your part you can get a good feel for which hotel you might get (betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com help a lot).
September is bordering on the end of tourist season so prices might go down slightly, but generally hotels in Anchorage are very expensive.

motels under $100 in September in Alaska
I second what John said.
Also, %26#39;Don%26#39;t like B%26amp;B%26#39;s no private bath%26#39;
That part of your statement is wrong- every B%26amp;B I%26#39;ve stayed in had a private bath. Yes, there are B%26amp;Bs that do that, but most have different options on rooms- cheaper ones that share a bath or ones that run $10-20 more than have their own private bath.
Having lived for years in Europe where no private bath is quite common, I have actually grown to like that. Most places with shared baths are smaller places with a very personal touch not found in other lodging options. I have a place in Germany I now go to regularly. About $20/person depending on the exchange rate (single or double, same per person price) including breakfast and an incredible view of the mountains. Spotless rooms and bathrooms and the breakfast is something on the order of ';expanded continental'; with an egg.
But I do understand that many Americans like private bathrooms. Just that they are missing out on some of the best lodging options.

we stayed at Eagle River motel ( 15 min out of anchorage) for about $89/night in August. and it had breakfast-nice
We stayed three days at Zoya%26#39;s B%26amp;B in Anchorage, about 10mins from the airport and loved it. Private entrance to what was a lower (split) level apartment with private bathroom and plenty of space. As I recall, pricing mid summer was just over $100/night for the two of us. Breakfast consisted of a dish of freshly baked breads and a fully stocked fridge in the event we wanted to do something ourselves a bit more substantial like eggs and toast. Juice, milk and coffee was kept in the unit as well.
Here is a review on the place, including photos: igougo.com/review-r1271194-Zoyas_Bed_and_Bre鈥?/a> .
Thanks, I%26#39;ll check out the bidding sites. Never heard of them before.
Hey Alaska,
Do you know anything about Al%26#39;s Alaska Inn Old Seward Hwy?
I%26#39;ll check out Zoyla%26#39;s thanks.
%26gt;%26gt;Thanks, I%26#39;ll check out the bidding sites. Never heard of them before.
You might want to also look at www.betterbidding.com and www.biddingfortravel.com. They give lots of information so you can be an informed bidder. I know more than one person who actually paid more on priceline.com for a room than they would have paid through conventional channels. Doing your homework would really pay off.

Hmm, I%26#39;m not familiar with an Al%26#39;s Alaska Inn and I drive on Old Seward from the top down to Dimond quite a bit. I%26#39;m not finding them on the %26#39;net at all. Where%26#39;d you come by this place? Do you have a neighborhood or cross street (to Old Seward) for them? I%26#39;ll keep an eye out for it when I%26#39;m driving around this weekend.
Also, if you%26#39;re considering B%26amp;Bs as long as they have a private bath and privacy, I recommend Susitna Place. It%26#39;s right near downtown and really nice. Their September rates are $105 plus tax for their two mid-priced rooms with private baths. I%26#39;m not much of a B%26amp;B kind of person either, but I%26#39;d found if you just politely mention that you%26#39;ll just be staying the night and then getting out and about as much as possible, they get the hint and don%26#39;t bug you. Up here, they tend to be cheaper than hotels unless you do the bidding thing, so I%26#39;ve gotten used to going with them, especially since I use them when I go to Healy and Seward where the hotel selections are even more limited than here and the B%26amp;Bs tend to be nicer than the hotels in those places (in my opinion).
