Drive around Haines

We(4 adults and 3 teens)will stop at Haines by Holland America cruise at middle of August. We%26#39;ll arrive at 6:30am and leave at 9:00pm. I just wonder what we can do about this long day there? I think that maybe we can rent a car to drive around area. I like to see wild animals, lakes and possible salmon in the river. It%26#39;s possible to go Haines Junction and sightseeing on the way? Any suggestions?

You will be Haines at the ideal time to see salmon in the river !.....Reserve a car ahead of time, they will pick you up at the ship dock.....then head out to Chilkoot River and Lake....salmon are usually thick in the river in August, park by the bridge and watch the fishermen....(you may even want to participate !).....

Another excursion here in Haines that your teens may enjoy is the 4-drive Kawasaki Mule trips.....
