Winner Creek Trail and summer hours in AK question

I would like to hike the Winner Creek Trail this June from the Crow Mine side but may not arrive until after the mine is closed for the day. Would this present a problem in getting access to the trail from there?

I want to take advantage of the long summer days but it seems a lot of things close by 5 or 6 pm. How late can you expect restaurants and shops to stay open in Alaska during the summer?

I cannot answer your quesion about the mine and parking, but there is also a turnout on the road before the mine where you can park and hike from there so you should be ok. Not every business in Alaska closes that early, I think some do so that they too can enjoy the summer sun. We have many 24 hour stores (convenience and grocery) as well as the regular 24 hour restaurants (Denny%26#39;s/Village Inn/Taco Bell/McDonalds etc..) I think that you will find most restaurants open until 9-10pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends though there are exceptions to all this information. The malls stay open until 9 or 10 pm and Fred Meyer and Walmart are generally open until 11pm or midnight. The Carrs/Safeway stores are 24 hours as well as some Walmarts, the smaller the town the less likely it is you will find a business with late hours.

I prefer to park behind Aleyeska Hotel (formerly known as Prince!) for the trailhead to Winner Creek. It is a more secure trailhead parking than out on the Crow Creek Rd. Crow Creek Rd. tends to get evening teens looking for places to park/party. There have been some problems at the Crow Pass parking lot in past years.

Denalicat, How long a walk is it to the hand tram from the Ayleska side? Would you want to hike beyond the hand tram towards the mine for views?
