Renting a bike in Juneau

Hello Friends,

My husband would like to rent a bike for half a day in Juneau to tour the city. Where could he do that?

Thank you in advance,

Debbie

Don%26#39;t know anything about them, but found one...

Renting a bike in Juneau

That is the one in my files. I show $40 for 24 hours, certainly less for 1/2 day but the rate is probably a year or two old.

Hi Debbie

Just to familiarize you a little with the topography of Juneau.....downtown near the docks the narrow street will be full of pedestrians and traffic then the streets radiate steeply uphill.....you may want to take your own walking tour of the downtown area and then arrange to be dropped off with your bikes out of town (maybe the ski resort on Douglas Island and ride back downtown from there ??)

Thank you for the information!

Thank you for the information.

Hello Mombear!

Ok well I guess the bike is out and the walking tour is in. I am starting to make a list of clothes to bring on our trip. My husband ';feels'; it isn%26#39;t going to be that cold. In Juneau, Skagway or Ketchikan. We are also cruising Tracy Arm Fyord. Average temp? What should we pack. Plan to be out on deck a lot and will also be hiking and on a boat whale watching. Your advise is always so good!

Thank you,

Debbie

Debbie,

You do not state when you are travelling so have a look at this link and pick a month for average weather details. I have chosen Juneau as an example for you:

www.weatherbase.com/weather/weather.php3…

I like this site because it not only gives daily averages, it also records av highs and lows, and rain and snow.

The weather in those areas is quite changeable and you should follow the general rule - plan for bad weather and be grateful if you don%26#39;t get any. Layering is the way to go, and in some places it will be cold out on deck.

Plan for layers in your clothing!!! A nice fleece hoodie w/a waterproof/breathable jacket on top will get you through most of the weather from a ship (your coldest day will be near the glaciers, plan on several layers under the above-mentioned).

Don%26#39;t forget hat and gloves, you will need them more than once!!! I spent the day on the deck when we did the glacier day on our cruise several years ago, someone loaned me gloves, which I had neglected to bring. We went on a much smaller (62%26#39;) boat cruise this past summer, were prepared for all weather this time (including rainpants, as well).

Bring whatever quick-dry clothing you may have, including biking gear (leggings), it%26#39;s great for those under layers.

Have fun!

Thank you for all the advise on clothing. We will be in Alaska the week of June 20th. I am so excited about Haines thanks to Mombear. I am really looking forward to the hikes with the wildflowers and wildlife.
