White Pass Scenic RR vs. renting a car

hi,

we are boarding the NCL Pearl on May 17 - 24 for the Alaskan cruise. they are offering a train ride in Skagway (White Pass Scenic Railroad). it is about $119 per person for 3 1/2 hours (roundtrip). is it worth it? should we rent a car instead or the experience is a must since it is an old train.

any feedback would be great since it is our first alaskan cruise.
