Questions on RV Rentals in Anchorage

Hi all,

We made a last minute decision to rent an RV instead of a car for our trip to Alaska.

Since it is our 1st time, can anyone advise if ABC Motorhome Rental is a good and reptutable one? Understand that we will be billed the full rental amount 30 days before rental date and require a $500 security deposit upon collection of RV. Are these standard practice for most RV rentals? Any other tips on RV rental would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Questions on RV Rentals in Anchorage

First, have you ever driven an RV? What size are you thinking of renting - how many are in your travelling group? When are you in Alaska? ABC is reputable - been here for years and one of two or three major rental companies. If there are just two of you, I highly recommend you rent a 26%26#39; at most unless you have experience driving RVs on two lane mountain roads and parking in small spaces as opposed to the large spaces you find in most RV parks in the lower 48. I full-timed for three years including going all over Alaska and up and down the Alaska Highway several times so I have some knowledge. It can be a truly wonderful way to see the state!

Send along the information needed and we%26#39;ll try to help you!

Questions on RV Rentals in Anchorage

Hi Kileysmom,

Many thanks for your advice! Glad to hear tt ABC is reputable since there is a large amount of prepayment req%26#39;d for the rental. We have made a reservation through ABC for a 20/21 ft RV. Our travel dates are 3 Sep (arrive 2pm) to 11 Sep 05 (depart 9.30am).

Will be grateful if you or anyone out there can share with us which are the good RV parks/areas to go to. Any tips for newbie RV drivers also welcome!!! Our planned itinerary are as follows:

Sat, 3 Sep: Collect RV, Drive to Whittier (overnite)

Sun, 4 Sep: Portage Glacier Tour (am), Drive to Seward for Exit Glacier, Hiking etc

Mon, 5 Sep: Kenai Fjord Cruise, Drive to Anchorage (overnite)

Tue, 6 Sep: Drive to Palmer (overnite), visit Hatcher Pass, Musk Ox Farm etc

Wed, 7 Sep: Drive to Matansuka Glacier for Hike and overnite in the area

Thu, 8 Sep: Drive to Denali Nat%26#39;l Park, Overite@ Salvage River

Fri, 9 Sep: Wonder Lake, Overite at Wonder Lake

(**Qn: do we need to book the RV campground to park our RV while we camp at Wonder Lake??)

Sat, 10 Sep: Drive back to Anchorage (overnite)

Sun, 11 Sep: Return RV and depart Anchorage.

Lastly, what%26#39;s the weather for our travel dates in Sep? How many hours of daylight can we expect to get?

Thanks!

Hi, a couple of quick answers - about 12 hours of daylight assuming it%26#39;s not too cloudy - Sept. can be rainy and so it ';gets'; dark a little earlier. I want to study your itinerary and I want to ask our TA friends with recent experience for campgrounds/RV parks (mine%26#39;s a few years old) for their input. By the time you get here, you shouldn%26#39;t need reservations unless things have really changed. I%26#39;ll get back to you in a day or two and I hope others will chip in!

Hi Kileysmom,

Thanks for the weather inputs in Sep and also going the extra mile in reviewing our planned itinerary - very grateful!

Wld luv to hear from u again!

:D

How was your experience with ABC Motorhomes when you rented the RV for your Alaska trip? We are looking to rent an RV for Summer 2007 and looking for recommendations. Thanks
