Susitna River Lodge

Anyone ever stay at Susitna River Lodge Cabins? Trying to book in Talkeetna for one night and this was recommended by Talkeetna Air Taxi. My other interest was My Alaska Cabin = a one cabin thing about 20 minutes outside Talkeetna. Any suggestions???

I was also inquiring about the Susitna River Lodge/Talkeetna area. We are planning a trip for July 19 and 20, 2007 in that area. Did you stay there? If so, what was it like? How far away from the town? Also, I read on Trip Advisor that Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge was overpriced for the value gained. A BIG complaint was that they had no air-conditioning and it was horribly hot in the rooms. What time of year did you go to Talkeetna and (if in the summer) was it indeed hot! Need some advice from others before I book anything.

We DID stay there last of May this year. It is GORGEOUS!!! The view of McKinley is like none other. I have the most amazing photos of sunset behind Mt McKinley from the front yard of our cabin - at 1 a.m.!! It was awesome. The cabin was ok - not the best lay out when compared to the others we stayed at during our 10 days in Alaska. But it was nice. King bed, 2 twins upstairs, kitchen... We needed the heat, so don%26#39;t know about the a/c. It was very cold when we were there. Talkeetna is a funky little town. It was fun to watch all the climbers and eavesdrop on their stories. A MUST is the West Rib Pub for caribou burgers and cole slaw! YUM! We actually made a detour and came back to eat one more time on our way back from Denali to Anchorage. The office people weren%26#39;t very friendly and they didn%26#39;t have laundry facilities, and those are my only gripes. Also, the kitchen didn%26#39;t have any utensils and the only cups were styrofoam ones someone had left. Not very convenient if you offer a kitchen with nothing to eat with/drink out of... Just my thoughts. Hope they help!

By the way, it is about 5 minutes from town and on the riverbanks. The river is mostly dry and it is neat to walk where you%26#39;d expect a river to be flowing and stare in awe at McKinley in the distance. Truly worth the view if nothing else. Alaska is the most amazing place you%26#39;ll ever go. We%26#39;re considering buying something up there - and that is coming from a Florida cracker from South Florida where anything below 70 is too cold!!! A truly awesome place....
