Hi Ya%26#39;ll,
We have a southbound week cruise planned for June 20-27, 2007. We are planning to stay 4 extra days somewhere but not sure if it should be pre cruise or post cruise, so i am deciding between Anchorage, (surrounding area) or Vancouver. Any suggestions? Cruise ship leaves from Whittier on Wed. at 9PM. We plan to spend one night at the opposite side of the cruise. We dock in Vancouver at 8 or 9 AM if any of that info helps you help us to make a decision. I have studied the websites but just don%26#39;t know the answer .

flying into anchorageI strongly recommend spending the time in Alaska. Vancouver is also a really great and beautiful place, but it is also much easier and cheaper to get to than is Alaska. So another trip might be planned for later in the Pacific Northwest for Seattle, Vancouver and British Columbia.
The quandary then becomes how to best use your time.... for a few days I would suggest landing in Fairbanks and spending a day, then take the train to Anchorage, and try to squeeze in a two night stop by McKinley Park so you can take the shuttle bus trip one day. This is a ';must'; if land animals are high on your enjoyment list. There is no place else where they are so concentrated. You can short-change Anchorage on the same grounds as Vancouver; it is easier to return to than the rest of Alaska. It is also ';as close to Alaska as you can get without actually being there.';
On a return trip, I am sure you realize, there is so much more to see! Enjoy what you have time for; however, it should be great!

flying into anchorageThanks 71 for your reply. Now the itinerary is the problem. We will fly into Fairbanks on Sunday , will have Monday and Tuesday to play and must be in Whittier Wed afternoon. SO considering that time frame and not trying to spend soooo mujch money or exhaust ourselves, what should we do. Do you still think we should fly into fairbank? Should we rent a car? Take a bus, train or what? Obviousoy this is a very expensive trip and I do agree with you that we (hubby and myself) should see as much as we can or what alaska has to offer.
Thank
Rosemary
