My wife and I are visiting Sitka for 3 days early july, can anyone recomend a place to stay without being over the top in pricing, and what would you recomend to do for such a short stay ?????

My husband and I were in Sitka in November. It is absolutely gorgeous. July%26#39;s probably a much better time for visiting, though!

We stayed at the Shee Atika Totem Square Inn - nothing special, but perfectly clean and up to date. Good location, and a free continental breakfast, which I find helps on expenses. The Super 8 might also be a good, reasonably priced option. Everything will be more expensive in summer, but these are probably not horribly expensive. You could also investigate bed-and-breakfast%26#39;s, but I don%26#39;t know how those will run pricewise.

I love hiking, so Sitka was wonderful for that. We hiked up to Indian River Falls (long but scenic). Shorter interesting trails are in the Starrigavan Recreation area - I highly recommend the Mosquito Cove Hike, but the others in the area are interesting as well. Numerous hikes up to the tops of mountains as well - we didn%26#39;t do any of those due to snow, but you%26#39;d be fine in July.

We also really liked the Sitka National Historical Park, which has a huge collection of totem poles. Easy stroll around the grounds to view the poles, as well as some indoor exhibits.

There are other museums %26amp; attractions as well - the raptor center is popular, and in the summer there are more Native culture options.

Fishing is very popular, as well as eco-tourism-type sightseeing; you could find a charter for either of those activities.

There is a nice travel planning site at www.sitka.org

Have fun!

Don%26#39;t miss a visit to the Raptor Center where they rescue bald eagles and other birds which have been hurt and then retrain them, if possible , to go back to their habitat. It is incredible.
