1st timers with kids

We%26#39;re considering a cruise with a 9 and 11 year old. Any recommendations? We also want to explore land as well. How do we get the most of a first visit?

Hello there and welcome to the Alaska forum! Well, it really depends on how much time you have and what all you want to see. A cruise limits you to just the Southeast of Alaska - it%26#39;s very beautiful, but not how the rest of the state looks. If you could, do your cruise and then plan another week or so for the land portion. So very much to see and do, and at a great distance (lots of driving). I would also read a variety of trip reports here on the forum as that will give you a taste of what other folks do on there vacation up here.

As far as kids go, my first thought is the Jr. ranger program that is available at all the National Park - many enjoy participating in that. Just in our local area, they could go horseback riding, rafting, hiking, attend a doggie demo, go for a bus ride in the park, etc. Alaska would be a wonderful experience for kids - to really expose them to the great outdoors, wildlife, etc. Down on the Kenai, you could take them salmon and/or halibut fishing, take them to the Sea life center in Seward, etc. Hope this helps get you started. :)
