Hi! I will be taking a cruise Jul 2007 and have never been to vancouver/alaska. We will have 1 night, 2 half days in vancouver and would love recommendations on nice (not expensive) place to stay (less than $150 per night) and things to do. Also, we will arrive in Seward and need to get to anchorage by the following evening for our red eye flight. any thoughts on if we should stay the night in seward then head to anchorage or if we should head to anchorage and spend the extra day there? places to stay/things to do would be great also!!!
Thank you!!!
Please help! questions on alaska/vancouver for cruiser
Hi squishydog,
The begining of your itinerary was the same as mine this past July. We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Vancouver, took a ferry to Granvulle Island for shopping and dining, and took a cable car up to Grouse Mountain. I recommend that you go to the Vancouver forum for more suggestions.
Too bad you are not able to stay longer in Alaska to visit the interior. However, you are landing in Seward, which is an absolutely beautiful destination with many things to do. My suggestion is for you to remain here overnight...then the following day, take the 6:30 pm train to Anchorage, catch the 8am bus to Anchorage, or rent a car from Hertz one way from Seward to Anchorage.
I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Seward, which is close to the cruise dock and the railroad. You will dock early enough to do several activities. Make sure you book a Kenai Fjords cruise. The 6- hour tour will take you through beautiful scenery passing marinelife such as whales, otter, and birds....and some magnificent glaciers. There are several companies to choose from, such as Major Marine, Renown, Kenai Fjords, just to name a few.
The SeaLife Center is nearby. Here you can view sealife, such as otter, puffin and other birds, seal lions. etc.
Another option is to take a hike to Exit Glacier, about 12 miles outside of Seward.
You will find information on much of the above by researching Alaskan websites. Have fun!
Please help! questions on alaska/vancouver for cruiserI agree, stay in Seward! It is beautiful! Try to take the Kenai Fjord National Park tour. We did this last June and it was spectacular. We saw orcas, black bears, eagles, puffins, and tons of other wildlife and spectacular scenery. Exit Glacier is a short hike, and you can walk right up to the glacier itself which is neat. The drive from Seward to Anchorage is amazing...plan for some stops along the way.
Thank you both! You%26#39;ve provided me with great information to start my planning! We will styay in seward overnight then go to ankorage and I will look into the hotels and tours you recommended!
Thanks again!!!
