Best place to dogsled on snow, and white river rafting

Hi.

We are planning a cruisetour from Vancouver to Fairbanks in June 07. I%26#39;m wondering what area or place would be best for dogsleding on snow and scenic white river rafting. We will visit Denali for 2 days ,Fairbanks 2 days, and Ancourage for 2 days, and the places on the inside passage. Since I will be in so many differrent areas I want to be sure I make the most of it. There are so many differrent places that offer it. Thanks

Hi there! Well, in June there is no snow here in our area, so our local mushers can%26#39;t help you out there. I believe there are some that do tours on glaciers - Juneau perhaps?? Do go to the NPS doggie demos, as they are great.

For your white water rafting, you can do that here in Denali - the one company I like to recommend is Denali Outdoor Center - best reputation on the river. I hope that hleps - good luck! :)

smoth, since you are staying in Anchorage for a couple days you may consider dog sledding from Girdwood located 40-45 minutes south of Anchorage. You would need to rent a car for a day to get to and from your dog sledding adventure. Try to google %26lt;Chugach Express Dog Sled Tours%26gt; This is an excellent company and they do run dog sledding on snow all summer long. You%26#39;ll be taken for a few minutes short flight by helicopter to the glacier covered with snow where the camp is located and where a team of huskies is happily waiting for you. With the guide you get to ride in a sled or you can be a driver of a team under s close supervision of your guide. You need to dress properly as it is cold on a glacier even if it is a very warm summer day. It is $400 per person but fully refundable if the weather does not cooperate. There is a limit of only three people maximum on your tour hence you should book it well in advance. Bring plenty of film or memory cards. BTW, you may already realized after reading posts on this forum how easy it is to arranged your land tour independently instead of paying much more to your cruise line.

The best heicopter/glacier dogsledding is on your cruise route, at Juneau, Skagway and Seward - in no particular order because they%26#39;re all great. None of the rafting along the cruise route, though, is whitewater - the best whitewater rafting is the Nenana Gorge at Denali (as opposed to the upper Nenana which is just a float trip). Your problem will be that on a cruisetour you get very little free time - probably not enough to do a raft trip. Traveling independently in Alaska is very easy and allows to you set your own priorities and schedule.
