Wondering if someone could tell me if the following itinerary is possible, or if I am trying to do too much. I will be driving from Alberta, pulling my trailer. I will start in Whitehorse.
July 28 arrive Whitehorse in evening
July 29 and 30 full days in Whitehorse. Maybe try to do a side trip to Skagway, leaving trailer behind in Whitehorse (worth doing???)
July 31 leave Whitehorse and drive to Beaver Creek or Tok if possible
Aug 1 Continue driving to Fairbanks
Aug 2 Explore Fairbanks
Aug 3 Fairbanks to Denali state park (traveling with dogs, so can%26#39;t go into Denali national park with dogs)
Aug 4 and Aug 5 relax and hike in Denali state park
Aug 6 drive to Anchorage
Aug 7 drive from Anchorage to Seward (unless you think it can all be done in one day from Denali
Aug 8 and 9 Seward - Do a day cruise of Prince William Sound (suggestions on tour company with most glacier sites and wildlife viewing?)
Aug 10 and 11 Drive back to Tok
Aug 12 drive from Tok to Whitehorse.
Any help is much appreciated. We will be staying at campgrounds on the way, and with the exception of Seward, will not be booking ahead of time.(Good idea?) Also is Seward best place to tour Prince William Sound or are there better alternatives.
Thank you
Itinerary Help
Welcome to TA.
I think you are making a mistake driving right by Denali NP and not stopping. I understand there is at least one kennel in Cantwell that can house your dog(s) when you are in the park.
If you are at Denali State Park (about mile 100-150 on the Parks Highway) it should not be a bad drive to Seward from there. But if you are at the National Park (about mile 240) it is another 2-3 hours.
You can%26#39;t easily get to Prince William Sound from Seward - you need to get to Whittier for that. But you can do a day cruise of the Kenai Fjords NP from Seward which is well worthwhile (see a glacier and lots of marine wildlife). From PWS it is mostly glaciers.
