An express coach service from Seward to Anchorage will drop us at the Egan Centre at 9 p.m.
Our accommodation is near the Museum of History and Fine Art.
Would it be safe for two ladies with their bags to walk around that area at that time of night?
It looks like maybe a 30 minute walk. Is that right?

Take a taxi - while the rougher area is a bit further to the north, a couple of women towing suitcases provides an obvious target.
safety in Anchorage
What time of year? In the summer months I am a single female and have walked around many places in downtown Anchorage past 9:00 and never felt unsafe. The walk is 30 minutes at the most. I would say more likely 15-20 minutes from the Egan Center.
I am assuming it is the Sept. trip you posted about a few months ago. If so, it will be dusk at 9 PM. Exactly where is your accomodation?? I frankly can%26#39;t think of anything but the Extended Stay and that%26#39;s about 3 blocks (in the ';wrong'; direction - meaning further from the Egan) from the museum. It would be helpful to have the name/address of your accomodation so we can advise you.
It will be early September. I am trying to decide whether to take the 10.30 a.m. service or the cheaper evening service.
Our hotel is Clarion Suites. According to the blurb, it is across the street from the museum. The service to Denali which we will be catching the next morning leaves from the museum.
The information I got from the coach company is very clear that the drop off point from Seward is the Egan Centre.
There is no safety issue at all with two women walking along 5th Ave at night. There are many shops, restaurants and hotels. People walk up and down the streets of Anchorage.
I worked at the Hotel Captain Cook for a while. I never worried whatsoever leaving and walking down to 2nd Ave where my car was parked.
The most that happened to me were some homeless people asking me if I had spare change.
AlaskanMom, the area you%26#39;re talking about is very different than up past the museum....
The morning bus will drop you off at the museum. It seems the difference between the buses are
AM bus - $65, drops off at museum, and includes admission to the museum
PM bus - $55, drops off at Egan center.
I would take whichever bus fit into my schedule and not worry about a $10 price difference. The $10 (or $20 for 2 people) price savings will be offset by either a long walk or cab fare.
The Park bus gets in at 9:30 pm, not 9. I don%26#39;t think my main concern would be safety (I%26#39;ve walked alone in downtown Anch. before at night with no problem), but dragging my luggage for 5 blocks. I%26#39;d take a cab for that reason alone. It%26#39;s not going to cost much.
If you get in on the earlier bus, that gives you a bit of time to explore Anchorage. I don%26#39;t know what itinerary you ended up with, but there is a free shuttle to the zoo, ulu factory, and Native Heritage Center.
Hi, I forgot about the Clarion Suites - it was a pretty run down place for so long that it isn%26#39;t on my radar anymore though I hear it is fine now.
The walk is about 6 blocks (5 if they drop you at the east end of the Egan and 6 if at the west end) and it is along streets that will have plenty of traffic in the evening. Most of our intersections have ramps for wheelchairs and wheeled luggage but a cab won%26#39;t be more than a few dollars each. You might try emailing the hotel to see if they would send the van for you - that should be a quiet time between airport runs.
Basically, stand with your back to the Egan (you are facing south if you like to know directions), turn left (east) and walk 2-3 blocks to C Street - the Egan is between E and F Streets - don%26#39;t cross C Street. From 5th %26amp; C, turn right (south) and walk to 8th and C where your hotel is located on the (southwest) corner.
Hope this helps,.

No. I%26#39;m not. I walked all over downtown Anchorage at all hours of the day and night. The most that will happen to two women walking is someone might come up to you and ask for spare change.
I am not sure how many times you walked living in Canada... but having lived here, I wouldn%26#39;t share information like this had I not lived it.
Thank you.
