HELP..Am going on a cruise in a few days from Whittier down to Vancouver........Has anyone taken private guided tours over the Cruise line-up that costs a fortune...Or is it all pretty much the same........Do you have any recommendations on who to use? And, what are the best excursions to do? Where should I do the seaplane...Where should i do the helicopter? And where should I look at whales, and go kayaking........Is there one place to see the glaciers that is better than another? Any help would be welcomed!
cruise tours or private tours
Hi Annie. It would help to know your ports of call, and if you%26#39;re cruising any glaciers (Hubbard, Glacier Bay, etc).
Juneau and Icy Strait Point are the best places to see humpback whales, with sightings on nearly 100% of the tours. Vancouver would be the best place to see Orcas (killer whales), with sightings nearly 100% of the tours.
Are you going to be in Whittier just in time for the cruise, or do you have a day there? There are day glacier cruises out of Whittier in which you spend a lot of time near a glacier watching it calve and listening to it grumble and thunder as it moves. What time does your ship said, and what plans have you made to get from Anchorage to Whittier?
As for whether to book excursions from the cruiseship or independently, I suggest you check out what is available in both, decide what you want to do, and then book with whichever gets you to the places you want to go. We can help with ideas one we know your ports of call.
cruise tours or private tours
If you are leaving in only a few days, a lot of what you will do will depend on what is still available. Most likely you won%26#39;t have time to get advice on this board, contact independent vendors, get a response from the vendor and make a deposit before you leave unless you are very quick. I would try calling any and all independent vendors you might want to use.
In any case, the sooner you might be able to post back, the sooner we could give you some suggestions.
In Whittier, if at all possible I would try to take one of the glacier cruises that are available there. They usually run for 4 hours or so in the afternoon. Then you still have plenty of time to get on your ship, check it out, have dinner, etc.

I just returned last night from a land tour and cruise. Can you tell me your cruise line and ports and I can provide my two cents? I saw everything from Orcas and Humpbacks to Grizzles!
We took Princess from Whittier to Vancouver and stopped in Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan.
We are cruising with Princess from Vancouver to Whittier - ports Ketchikan, Skagway, Juneau, and then we have a 5pm flight from Anchorage on the day we disembark in Whittier - any excursion picks or peeves - any recommendations are graciously welcomed.
Paddlers,
Go into the sub forums for the ports you will be visiting and then read the ';Before you go'; information to be found under the tab on the upper left of the page. Lots of info there. Then peruse the threads posted by others and the answers they received. You will a lot of information that way.
