train vs rent a car to denalli

Hello,

My wife and I are planning a trip next summer.

We are considering riding the train or renting a car. What are

the advantages to the train. Can you see the same things from

a car or does the train take a different route than the highway.

It seems like you could save alot of money by renting a car.

Is that true?

If you are physically able to drive the 5 hours from Anchorage to Denali, I would recommend the car. With a car you can stop and explore areas as you make your trip up to %26amp; back from Denali. Also with a car it makes accomadations more available, not limited to park accomadations.

Well, the train is lovely and relaxing . . . and it does go a slightly different route than the road - the train was there first! :) However, as the other poster mentioned, you have much more flexibility with a car - you can stop when you want, make side trips and have the option of other accommodations when you don%26#39;t take the train. So yes, I would recommend a car rental over the train and it%26#39;s much more affordable. Good luck! :)

There is one other advantage of a car.We stayed in Anchorage on the 19th august this year and planned a leisurely drive to Denali the next day.However the rains came and both the road and railway were washed out.At least we could still get to denali even though it was the very long way via Glenallen and fairbanks-certainly not a leisurely drive.But at least we were able to get there,use our booked accommodation and tours.Those on the train were stuck.

Definitely rent a car. The train takes forever and there a lot of side trips you would miss.

definitely drive, as most other responses have gone. The train is nice (having both taken the train and driven) but than you have the problem of xportation when u get to the park. With a car you can stop at all the scenic overlooks (I still stop and gape, even though I drive several times per year) and take pictures. The train is relaxing however the upper bubble car areas tend to get very warm and when I took the train all we saw was a lone black bear standing by the tracks. The car is the best option.
